Radiator Tables (part 4)

I haven’t posted for a while because of vacation to Colorado Springs and a couple funerals.

Which is not to say I haven’t been working on these darn tables. If I could do it again, I would have shelled out some cash and done them in oak because the pine boards are all warped. What did I expect. So I’ve had to do some creative clamping.

This is a view of one side of the long tables being clamped.

Here it is assembled, but without the tray for the spalted maple to set on.

Instead of doing the tongue and groove method, i’m just butting the tray pieces right to the frame. It’ll be fine. Because the boards are warped, this helped get them straight. I used every one of my clamps and it was slow going.

I did I dry fit with the spalted maple boards and they seemed to fit pretty well. I will have to plane down some of the maple later.

They have been sanded down to 100 grit and though I don’t show it, I have put a quarter round on the boards that stick out on the corners and middles.

I will be installing the maple soon. After that I will finish the pine with a walnut finish and hit the whole thing with some polyurethane.
