The joints on the mantel dried overnight. However, the 45s were a little messy when I took off the 90 degree braces. I found a YouTube video that showed a great technique for fixing them using a screwdriver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyHtW_x8Y64. They look ok. I sanded with 60 in specific places, then 220, and then 400. There are a couple things I would have done different at this point, but I can’t overwork the wood too much or it will show. I think I’ll clean up the shop and put on a coat or two of Danish finish tomorrow.
On the side I started a small box with some curly pine I picked up. I’m excited to sand it soon and show all of the dynamic grain.
