Walnut Mantel (part 4)

We installed the walnut mantel on the fireplace and to my satisfaction, I got the measurements correct.

The original mantel that I built this in top of was not as level as I had remembered it. I need to always check that measurement during the prep if I do another project like this. Regardless, we ended up getting it pretty level and flush against the wall using some shims and a couple finishing nails.

The rich walnut color looks nice against the white walls and the grain give it a bit of extra nuance. The overhang that was created could be a fun place to put some LED lights for a nice ambiance.
