Radiator Tables (part 3)

I’ve had a busy week and even though I was working in the shop, nothing was really substantial enough to post. However, the incremental changes are starting to materialize into something that resemble tables.

I knew I wanted to put a taper on the legs to give them less of a lumber look. I used my vertical clamp sled that I built about a year ago. It is a good sled, but I think I will make a different version in the future.

The animation is pretty bad, but I think the function of the sled is apparent. It only has one rail slot, so it’s not a stable as a cross cut sled.

At this point, everything is basically cut down to their final dimensions.

I did a dry fit to make sure everything is lining up. I’ve decided to do a dowel join all the way through the top of the leg for a nice touch.

I drilled the holes all the way through, one higher than the other. I will plug them with a 3/8 oak dowel and trim them off with a finishing saw.

But first, I decided to get all of the legs glued up. I think I would have to use screws or nails if I tried to do the build all at the same time and I’m not keen on that.

When these are done, I’ll “reinforce” them with the dowels and start thinking about how to clamp up the long top pieces.
