I made an aspen coffee table a while back that made me recognize how beautiful aspen wood can be. It was probably before I started the website, so I don’t think I ever posted about it.

We got the hair pin legs online and they came with the hardware, so it made for a pretty quick project. Our TV stand has been a flat pack walmart thing and showed the signs of its composite age. It has been our plan to replace it with a stand that will match the coffee table.
I got the aspen boards from Menards, which I unwrapped. The nice thing is that there is no planing. We got the 22″ iron metal legs in the mail after I got the lumber.

I ripped the skirt down to 2″ and jointed it into a frame. You might notice the 90 degree clamp that I am loving.

I jointed the frame to the top surface.

I cut some leftover pine end-cuts and glued them to the bottom side of the surface overnight. I did this with the coffee table and it gave the legs more bite when mounting the legs.

Because it was Saturday, I had time to build the shelf underneath and mount it later that day. I used dowels here to help establish a better join because there would be more downward weight.

Here it is being clamped. I wish I would have left the legs off until I was done sanding, but I got anxious. Putting on hardware is one of the most enjoyable parts of a project.

Here it is all put together.

After a lot of sanding and 3 coats of polyurethane it is now holding up our TV.

I think these will be a good set for a long time, especially with the iron legs!
