Kristy’s colleague was interested in a Cherry wood desk similar to the one she has: https://eveninggrain.com/2019/09/25/cherry-desk-part-2/. Cherry can turn into a beautiful caramel color and it is really great to work with. It is also at a great price per board foot right now!
I squared the boards and knocked off the rough edges. I dowel joined them together. Clamps! Then sanded it down to 650 grit.

Since this may be a writing desk, I filled the knots with some home-made wood filler. I cleaned that up and attached the legs.

I really like the “K” legs. They are well balanced and will definitely prevent some bruised knees. I finished the top with de-waxed shellac and a couple coats of polyurethane.

You can see the contract in color between “seasoned” cherry and a newly processed cherry. A closer look at the wood and you can see the swirling grain patterns. There’s a whole universe in there. New civilizations are forming. Good job, wood.

We delivered the desk and installed a keyboard tray. The tray has multiple pivot points and slides in and out of the way. It’s nice. Space-age nice.

Kristy’s colleague followed up with some pictures. The space looks great and the desk is a nice complement to her style!

I really enjoy being able to collaborate with people on projects like this one. The desk was fun to work on and exciting to see complete.
