I have been working on new cutting boards for my First Friday show in NOTO. I hope you like them. These are two interesting boards. The bigger one is purple heart and maple. The smaller is a chaos board with some very tasty woods: purple heart, walnut, padauk, hedge, Baltic birch, cherry, and probably some…

I tapered the middle of the handle down using the band saw so that the cutting boards will be more ergonomic. Using a router and a 1/4 round over bit, I shaped up the sides. I put one in the vice and started sanding by hand. I think I’ll have these looking pretty good in…

I’ve cut these blanks out of a birds eye maple board I’ve had laying around. I cut the corners on the band saw. More to come, but I will probably router a quarter round on all sides and shape the handle more. This is new territory for me, so I’m excited to see how they…

The pine end boards bonded to the walnut cutting board overnight. I took maybe 5 millimeters thickness from the board all together. The pine end-boards did great. I’ve processed an end cut cutting board through a planer without the boards and it destroys the end of the board as it exits the planer. You can…

Similar to the previous cutting board, I planed off the beaded-up glue with my hand planer and trimmed up the sides with the miter saw. I ripped some 2x4s to size for the sacrificial boards on the font and end to protect the board from chipping out. They are glued and will clamp overnight.

Clamps are off. I was dealing with a bit of illness, so I left the clamps on for 3 days. At least I know the glue is good and set. I have been leaving the glue beaded instead of trying to wipe it off because it ends up being easier to knock off with a…
